From October 2015
October starts the new BNI year with new leadership for most Chapters and new goals. Now is a good time for members to also look at their performance and goals to ensure they are getting the most from their BNI participation.
As you know, BNI measures everything. I've seen and read several quotes regarding this:
I believe that if each member works on setting their goals to improving the key areas listed above, they will see a significant improvement in their overall traffic light score as well as their overall revenue. And if each member is improving their individual traffic light scores, then there should be an overall improvement to the Chapter Traffic Light scores.
As you know, BNI measures everything. I've seen and read several quotes regarding this:
- What gets measured, gets managed. ~ Peter Drucker
- What gets measured gets improved. ~ Robin S Sharma
- What gets measured gets done. ~ Tom Peters
I would like to focus on the Traffic Light measurements as each individual member as well as each chapter receives a traffic light score.
Each BNI Chapter is given a Traffic Light Score based on a system which measures Key Performance Indicators.
The key areas that affect a chapter's traffic light score are:
- Chapter Size
- Referrals per member
- Member Retention
- Visitors per week
- Visitor Conversion
- Member Growth
- Absenteeism/Attendance
Revenue
The Individual Traffic Light Scores are also for a rolling six month period. Your Chapter President and LT have access to these. Most Chapters provide these numbers to their members on a monthly basis.
- This figure is not used to calculate traffic light score. However, closed business is one of the reason why members join chapters and is a great tool to use to recruit new members. It stands to reason that if a Chapter is achieving high Traffic Light scores, they are doing all the right things which should reflect in their revenue also.
The Traffic Light scores are for a rolling 6 months. The President of each Chapter has access to the Chapter's Traffic Light Scores and can provide the information as to how these are calculated. Per Hugh Grey, Managing Area Director for BNI, a green light score for a Chapter is like getting an A+. A yellow light score is equivalent to an A.
Individual members also receive a Traffic Light Score based on their individual performance.
Below is the scoring system:
